I have a lot of tags. Most of them are pretty intuitive.
Everything fandom-y is tagged by fandom. Star Trek is its own tag, alongside TOS or TNG or whatever as a tag of its own. All Holmesian things are tagged Sherlock Holmes regardless of incarnation; narrow it down with classic Sherlock, BBC Sherlock, or Sherlock 2009. (Or Elementary, for that matter.) Disney is also a thing. If there are a TON of fandoms in a post, it’ll be under the ALL the fandoms! tag.
Characters are by full name, if one exists. Comic book characters are also tagged by pseudonym. The Doctors are formatted as Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, etc. If there are a ton of characters from the same fandom in a post (say more than 4 or so) I’ll list it by fandom followed by cast, as in ‘Star Wars cast.’ Disney princesses exists as sort of a special case. If the fandom name is long I’ll abbreviate - Les Mis cast for Les Misérables, HP cast for Harry Potter, TTSS cast for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Ship names are tagged with portmanteaus if they portmanteau neatly (like Merthur, Brittana… that sort of thing). Otherwise, xs! (With spaces in between.) Because Tumblr’s tag system is evil and will not work with slashes. There’s no elaborate system for determining which name comes first; I just do it by what sounds better to me. Myka x Helena, Arthur x Eames… Aubrey x Maturin because Aubrey/Maturin is /actually the mainstream name of the series/. (I KNOW, right??) Once I pick an order I tend to be consistent.
Actors and actresses are tagged by their full names too. They won’t be tagged when they’re /completely/ in character - only in interviews and photosets and the like.
Oh, and sometimes my tags seem like gibberish. This is likely because (unless I’m keyboard-smashing or severely off my rocker at the moment) I’m relating them to one or another of my original works. Like this lovely coat that Vincent von Heltenberg from my Arcrior chronicles would wear the /life/ out of, or this postsecret that gives me feels about Seeking the Set’s Beatrice Brazington and her father Walter. (Wow, /both/ of my examples here are alliterating names… and an alliterating [admittedly placeholder] title to boot. I swear I don’t make them a habit!!)
There are tags for casting, fic, crossovers, and AUs. Art, music, poetry, audio, videos; logic, rationality, maths, statistics, psychology, and advertising. Space is a blanket tag because the intricacies of astronomy and astrophysics are too annoying to navigate when you just want to look at pretty stars. There are tags for quotes, recipes, true stories, and memes; for all kinds of animals as well as subsets like lions and cats and dolphins and bears. Also random things like colourful, pretty, epic, and adorable. Food and love. Religion. Typos. Hogwarts houses. America and Great Britain. LGBTXYZ is my tag for all things queer-ish - which doesn’t have a strict definition but doesn’t really need one anyway, so just think of it as encompassing anything non-stereotypically-normative in terms of gender and/or sexuality. (I might throw kink in there too.)
I have a faves tag for my all-time favourites. Just so they won’t get buried in everything else. Then there are feels and creys, which are basically the exact same tag, except split into two arbitrary categories based on which word springs to my mind first.
My posts is for anything I upload originally, while my additions is for anything I make a /substantial/ contribution to (usually something creative; must be more than the word FEELS followed by a keyboard-smash). My answers covers everything that comes into my ask box, while message me covers things I would like you to put in my ask box in the first place; for non-askbox discussions there’s conversations. I have real life and personal tags, so feel free to ignore those posts… or to creepily stalk them. Whatever works for you.
I do trigger warn. If I slip up and label something improperly, or fail to label it in the first place, /please please please/ let me know - I’m still learning the conventions, and I really want your time here to be as pleasant as possible. :) Besides placing a trigger warning in the post itself, I add tags of the format tw: [trigger here]. e.g. tw: homophobia. Things I warn for include abortion, abuse, acephobia, bullying, child abuse, conversion therapy, cultural stereotypes, death, depression, eating disorders, ethnic slurs, homelessness, homophobia, marginalization, rape, self-harm, suicide, and transphobia. (Notice: these will be spelt the American way, because more people seem to have them blocked under those spellings.)
These topics really don’t come up terribly often, but sometimes there’s something I feel a real urge to share, and when there is an interruption in your daily feed of happy sci-fi gifs I want you to be prepared. :)
Is that it already? I guess that’s it! (If you are seriously still reading this you have problems.) I think this page is mostly more for my own use than yours, but if you got something out of it, bravo. Now go browse something more interesting. I’ll see you on the other side. <3
